With white orchids, gold Louboutin’s, prosecco pops, and lush tablescapes, this editorial shoot at the Anderson House Garden in Washington D.C. was reminiscent of the high society hosts that inspired the venue name. The Anderson House garden is a hidden gem in Washington D.C., providing the perfect private-yet-outdoor setting for our photo shoot. We wanted to showcase how a just few luxury details can make an intimate reception modern, fashionable, and memorable.
About The Anderson House
Once the winter home to an American diplomat and his wife, the Larz Anderson mansion and garden located on Embassy Row in Washington D.C. serves as an intimate and chic venue for D.C. couples. The Anderson’s were some of D.C.’s most well-known hosts, with their grand home welcoming colleagues for formal dinners, high society galas, concerts, and performances. Now, you can host your wedding reception at the Anderson House and it still has the same feel of luxury as it did over 100 years ago.
The historical landmark is a lavish space to host a reception with an interior that is eclectic yet sophisticated every corner you turn. The firm of Arthur Little and Herbert Browne of Boston designed the mansion with influences from England and Italy.
The walls are carved and wooden leaving a timeless feel to the home. The ceilings of the home are paper mache and offer texture to the rest of the mansion. The iron staircases and marbled floors paired with the gold accents of the Anderson House create a beautiful and sophisticated setting for bridal photos and the reception alike.
Every which way guests will turn to take in a new slice of this home, just as the Anderson’s wanted when building finished in 1905. For this shoot, we kept with the theme of sophisticated luxury as it was the only way to go when at this lavish venue.
Styling Choices
Our bridal model wore a gown by Berta Bridal via Carine’s Bridal in D.C. that had a plunging neckline and dramatic low back with unexpected tulle ties at the shoulders, adding movement and intrigue to the dress’ shape. The soft tulle layers perfectly caught the sunlight that streamed in the massive windows at the Anderson House mansion, giving our model the perfect glow. I couldn’t resist some dramatic portraits at the gorgeous staircase inside the mansion! She paired the fanciful dress with a pair of gold Christian Louboutin heels and bronze smokey makeup by Blush by Makki.
JR Florals provided a bridal bouquet with over-the-top volume, featuring only white orchids to blend in with the gold and white elements throughout the shoot. The table settings designed by CM Events & Design and entryways featured white garden roses and tulips, adding variety to the floral arrangements while maintaining the all-white cohesiveness.
For sunset portraits, our bridal model slipped into a sexy, tailored evening gown with a plunging neckline and delicate beading throughout. It was the perfect look to top off this editorial session that celebrated elegance and the finer things in life! The elegance of the home paired with the chic sophisticated style of this reception made everyone feel high society for the evening.
