Modern & Chic Destination Wedding in Jamaica

Modern & Chic Destination Wedding in Jamaica photographer by Hana Gonzalez

I had the honor of capturing Rroya and Jordan’s wedding in Jamaica in 2022. Their wedding was chic, modern, and filled with stunning details.

The Welcome Party

We started Rroya and Jordan’s wedding weekend with a welcome party for all of the out-of-town guests at The Tryall Club. Jamaican elements inspired the welcome party, including the branded coconut drinks for all guests and a traditional steel band playing as the guests walked into the party. All the guests received a welcome bag filled with Rroya and Jordan’s favorite Jamaican snacks and beverages- savory banana chips, sweet tamarind balls & Jamaican staple – ginger beer. They also incorporated some games they grew up watching their family play. Dominos & Ludi. Rroya and Jordan customized the Ludi board game to make a “home base” for each player, a location that was sentimental to them. Michigan- where they met; NY- where they got engaged; Jamaica- where they got married; and Bali, where they will honeymoon.

The party took place by the pool overlooking the water; the evening was beautiful with perfect weather! The guests spent the evening catching up with each other, enjoying great drinks, playing games, and enjoying traditional Jamaican food.

The Wedding Day

Rroya and Jordan’s wedding day was filled with tropical yet elegant and modern details. Their wedding colors were white and black with subtle touches of brown. Their primary flower was a white orchid, adorned at the reception and ceremony and throughout Rroya’s bouquet.

Rroya and her bridesmaids spent the morning doing their hair and makeup and drinking champagne. Before Rroya and Jordan did their first look, Rroya did one with her girls, which was one of the sweet moments of the day. Rroya’s wedding gown was a strapless heart-shaped cut down with 3D flowers; it was the first dress she tried on at the second bridal shop she went to. She immediately fell in love with it!

Jordan wanted a modern but timeless look, so he decided on a double-breasted ivory suit jacket. Jordan wanted to honor his childhood friend, Pepe, who passed away from sickle cell disease; wearing Pepe’s wishbone pin was important to him. His groomsmen and childhood friends have been passing the pin down for special occasions & it was now Jordan’s turn to wear it proudly.

Before walking down the aisle, Rroya and Jordan did an intimate first look. Their ceremony was overlooking the ocean with all-white flowers and dark wood bamboo chairs. They decided to write their vows, which I love when my couples do!

My favorite detail was the table seating chart with little bottles filled with jerk seasoning. The reception was an intimate sit-down dinner with authentic Jamaican dishes, heartfelt speeches, cake cutting, and so much dancing.
