A few months ago, I spontaneously bought flights to Lima. Javier was shocked at first, but then he got so excited to visit his home country! We knew it wasn’t going to be easy traveling with a toddler, but it was our best adventure so far! Norah couldn’t be happier. She didn’t complain or cry, and she loved it.
We spent a total of 10 days in Peru, including flying to Cusco and visiting Machu Picchu. We tried local foods and visited the market to buy fresh fruit. Thankfully Javier’s uncle was driving us the whole time. The traffic is pretty awful. Cars drive so close to one another; you can touch them!
In the middle of our stay, we flew to Cusco. Then we took a train to Aquas Calientes, which is the closest access point to the historical site of Machu Picchu. The views were surreal!
On the way back, we spent the night in Cusco. Everyone warned us about possible altitude sickness, which we didn’t experience in Machu Picchu. When we got off the train, we could not catch our breath, and walking was very hard with a pounding heart. Thankfully Norah was okay; she just wanted to be carried the whole time 🙂
We had an amazing time in Peru, and we hope to go back very soon and explore this beautiful country more!
